The Chicago Sky have spent the last few days trying to shake off a loss to a team that hadn't won in 17 tries this season. The San Antonio Silver Stars will look for their sixth straight victory when they bring the WNBA's longest active winning streak to Chicago, hoping to take over sole possession of the league's best record.
The Sky haven't played since falling 91-84 at Atlanta on Saturday, becoming the first team to lose to the expansion Dream, who had started their first season 0-17. San Antonio, meanwhile, hasn't lost to any team except Houston over its last 12 games, with a pair of five-game winning streaks separated by a home-and-home sweep at the hands of the intrastate rival Comets.
While San Antonio has had the bulk of its success at home, going 10-0 at the AT&T Center, the Silver Stars have also won three of their last four road games.
The Sky (5-11) return home after losing the last two games of a three-game road trip. They've dropped seven of nine overall, including Saturday's dubious defeat to the Dream. The Silver Stars swept two meetings with the Sky in Chicago's inaugural season in 2006, but the Sky returned the favor last year. Jia Perkins had 27 points off the bench in the teams' most recent matchup, an 84-82 Chicago home win last July 22.
Prediction
SA is all-side better team than Chicago and the only reason why we see such low handicap is their last 2 matches which were won by Chicago in last season. Chicago have a lot of troubles in scoring points, without games with Phoenix and Atlanta they are only 69 points per game while allowing 77. San Antonio have mirror averages 77-70 and statistically correct line should be 69-77 to San Antonio favor. Sure 8 points away handicap is rare thing in WNBA but I think that for this game it should be at least 5.5 points.
Chicago lost 7 of their last 9 games and won only against tired Detroit Shock and Minnesota without Simone Augustus. I doubt that they will be able to dictate their game to San Antonio which is much more experienced team and moving in different direction by winning 10 of their last 12 games (both games were lost to Houston but even there San Antonio was better team and lost in last seconds at home). San Antonio will use their agressive defense again and will win this game. At least I expect to see San Antonio win by 5-8 points.
Predicted score: Chicago 69 - 75 San Antonio
