Phoenix MercuryVS. Connecticut Sun

Phoenix Mercury vs. Connecticut Sun

The Connecticut Sun don't have the kind of star power that the Phoenix Mercury do. So far, they haven't needed it.After a balanced scoring attack lifted them to their sixth win in seven games, the Sun look to become the first team to reach 10 wins Wednesday night when they visit the Mercury.Phoenix (2-6) has the top two scorers in the league in Cappie Pondexter and Diana Taurasi, but that duo hasn't been able to prevent the defending WNBA champion Mercury from falling to the bottom of the Western Conference.Connecticut (9-2), meanwhile, has the best record in the league thanks to a variety of offensive options, none of whom rank in the league's top 13 in scoring. The Sun had five players score at least 10 points - including two off the bench - in a 74-67 win over Seattle on Monday night. Reserve guard Barbara Turner had 13 points and hit four 3-pointers for her fourth straight game in double figures, and Sandrine Gruda added a season-high 10 points in 17 minutes off the bench.

"We're good enough to have the depth to be able to do that," Sun coach Mike Thibault said. "Our bench has been playing great most of the year. I thought they played really well and we got a spark from almost everybody."

Prediction

Always when these teams meet each other they play ultra-fast basketball with many jump-shots, fast posessions and with no defense until deciding minutes. I don't want to overstimate Sun defense against low-pace teams. Today it will be a different story. They will be forced to play with 8-9 players in rotation to score more points than their opponents. So far their offensive form was not a problem and I can't see them losing their offensive form here in Phoenix where hosting team receives almost 89 points per game in average.

Phoenix scored 77 points in their last game against Detroit but it was an "off-night" for Taurasi who had 1/13 FG that day. I think that today after some rest it should go in different way. With no doubts Phoenix at home is always capable to score in the 85-100 points range and I expect them to produce better against less physical and very fast Connecticut Sun who are not so angry because of their 9-2 record. Phoenix is only 2-6 this year and I see them slight favorites to win this game because it's time to recover and their opponent will play 3rd consecutive game away from home.

I expect this game to be high tempo and if shooting percentage will be at least normal expect both teams to score in the 85-95 pts range and final result will go over 174.5.

Predicted score: Phoenix 92 - 88 Connecticut

Pick: Over 174.5 @ 1.91 Sportingbet
