Dynamo MoscowVS PGE Turow Zgorzelec

Dynamo Moscow vs. PGE Turow Zgorzelec

Dynamo Moscow looks to move one step closer to its second ULEB Cup crown in three years as it faces off with surprise Final Eight quarterfinalists PGE Turow Zgorzelec. The 2006 champion cruised past Lukoil Academic in the Last 16 with wins by 14 points in Bulgaria and 26 points at home. Dynamo’s lethal swingman duo of Henry Domercant and Travis Hansen averaged a combined 40 points in the series, while its low-post combination of Antonis Fotsis and Robertas Javtokas did an excellent job stopping Lukoil's big men.

Turow, however, will be a different encounter as they play a much smaller game with the trio of perimeter players Andres Rodriguez, David Logan and Thomas Kelati. This showdown will be a fascinating one as Dynamo point guard Milos Vujanic as well as Domercant and Hansen will all need to step up on the defensive end to help contain the heart of the Turow attack. One of the secrets to Turow’s success is that it does not beat itself, averaging a competition-best 10.7 turnovers all season – nearly six turnovers fewer per game than Dynamo. Rebounding could become an issue as Turow has been out-rebounded in seven of its last nine games, while Dynamo, featuring Javtokas and Fotsis – ranked third and sixth, respectively, on the all-time ULEB Cup defensive rebounding charts – has won the battle of the glass in four of its last five games. More than any other figure, the game will hinge on Turow’s ability to stop the Dynamo attack, which is the highest scoring (91.6 ppg) and best shooting (62.7% from inside the arc and 43.9% beyond) team in the ULEB Cup this season, since trying to outrun Moscow seems an unlikely option; Turow has topped 75 points just five times all season and not once since Week 7, while besides an 81-62 loss at Beghelli Bologna, Dynamo has not scored fewer than 83 points all season and has topped 100 four times.

The experience factor also leans towards Dynamo, as it features one former Euroleague champ, three former ULEB Cup winners, three players who’ve been to the Euroleague Final Four and two more who have done all of the above! On the other hand, apart from forward Dragisa Drobnjak, a ULEB Cup finalist with KRKA Novo Mesto in 2003, no Turow player has been in the European spotlight quite like this before. Now will be the true test for head coach Saso Filipovski’s charges, who enter the game as the clear underdog, but with a big enough bite to set up a potential thriller that could go to the wire.

Betting overview

I do respect the job Turow done this season in Europe. I like their organized team play with hard defense and small turnovers amount but unfortunately I can't see how they can win this encounter against Dynamo Moscow. Turow don't have big centers to stop Dynamo front court on both ends of the floor and think this will be most important factor in this game. They simply don't match up with Dynamo roster where bench players are the same class as main Turow players. And I think Turow will have huge problems when their key players will be on the bench.

As for Dynamo I think that Pesic studied his team opponents very well and have several game plans how to win this game. Unfortunately I don't know exactly what tactics Pesic will choose for this game because there are so many options. Dynamo can outrun and outscore Turow or can play Turow-basketball and build their game through their big mans. Also combined tactic could be used here.

Prediction: A lot will depend on Dynamo tactics in this game. If they will use their centers (as I would play) than game tempo should not be so fast and probably low score will be very possible. Let's be honest until now Turow never have played with teams like Dynamo and this game will be their first on such level and I doubt about their chances to stay in the game for long time. I think that Dynamo will take 10 pts lead in the middle of the game and will hold it until the end. Handicap outcome will depend mainly on the game tempo and Dynamo offense. If Dynamo will struggle to score 80 than probably Turow will lose by 7-10 handicap if not than Dynamo will win this game by 12-15 pts. My prediction: Dynamo by 13 points.

Predicted score: Dynamo Moscow 78 - 65 PGE Turow Zgorzelec

Pick: Prefer to skip or Under 150.5 @ 1.90 Expekt
